We will highlight the parade on Main Street and the many ways to get involved in that event, our Cyclone Sweethearts competition, a 5K, the business decorating contest and our Friday night events that include the Pep Rally, lawn displays and fireworks on Central Campus. |

The Election Process

Lucy Martin was re-elected to her second full term as Auditor and Commissioner of Elections in 2016. She began serving as Auditor in January of 2011 following her unanimous appointment to fill the vacant office; she won her first election in 2012. Prior to holding office, Lucy was a Deputy Auditor. Lucy is a graduate of Rice University (BA) and received her Masters of Public Administration from Columbia University in 1996. Before moving to Iowa, she held supervisory positions in the New York City Mayor's Office of Management and Budget, overseeing units managing the operational and capital budgets for economic development, housing, buildings, ports, and planning. In her fifteen years with Story County, she has worked on a variety of committees, including the Real Estate and MAPS committees. She served on both the Land Use & Rural Affairs and Transportation legislative steering committees through the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) as well as ISAC's County Strategic Technology Advisory Resource (CoSTAR) committee. She is a member of the Iowa State Association of County Auditors (ISACA) and is past president and vice-president of District I. She currently serves as co-chair of the Statewide Election Administration Training (SEAT) Board. Lucy is a past member of the executive board of the Iowa Precinct Atlas Association of County Auditors (IPACA); Precinct Atlas is an electronic pollbook, used by the majority of Iowa counties to facilitate voting. She is active in the local chapter of the League of Women Voters. Lucy is SEAT certified, as are most staff members. SEAT provides guidance on federal and state election laws, administrative rules, and best procedures for all types of elections. Lucy has presented numerous SEAT training classes. She is also a certified Precinct Election Official. Lucy has been married to her husband, ISU professor David Hollander, for 20 years. Their daughter attends Smith College. |

United Way of Story County

Kristin Pates is the Campaign Director at United Way of Story County and has been in this role since 2009. During her 10+ years she has worked with 10 campaign chairs, 100’s of campaign volunteers and has successfully reached and exceeded the goal each year. Kristin understands the importance of how the dollars raised makes an impact in the lives of thousands for individuals and families and works tirelessly to share that message. She will share with Rotary members “how you can help change the story”. |

Dr. Karen M. Kedrowski is Director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics and Professor of Political Science at Iowa State University. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and the University of Oklahoma, Norman. Dr. Kedrowski’s research agenda focuses primarily on women and politics and civic engagement. Prior to coming to Iowa State, she spent 24 years at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she served in many roles, including Chair of the Political Science Department, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and as a key leader of the University’s civic and voter engagement efforts.

Sheila Schofer has served as Library Director for Ames Public Library since the end of May, 2019. Prior to joining the City of Ames, Schofer served as the Director of Neighborhood and Public Services at the Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn, N.Y., for five years. Schofer had worked at the Brooklyn Public Library since 1996, serving as Regional Librarian – North East Region from 2012 to 2014, Coordinator of Young Adult Services from 2004 to 2012, Manager of Library Services – Children’s Specialist from 2003 to 2004, Regional Youth Services Specialist from 1999 to 2003, Assistant Branch Manager from 1998 to 1999, and Librarian from 1996 to 1997. Schofer has a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and a bachelor’s degree in English and History from St. Ambrose University in Davenport. ​ |

Dine On Stage at CY Stephens Auditorium. Dr. Tin-Shi Tam, a native of Hong Kong, has been the Cownie Professor of Music (University Carillonneur) and the Chair of the Keyboard Division since 1994. She is a carillonneur member of The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America and a fellow of the Trinity College of Music (London). She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ from The University of Michigan, Master of Science in arts management from Durham University, England, Master of Arts in organ performance from The University of Wales, Cardiff and a Bachelor's degree in music from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. A celebrated artist on carillon and organ, Dr. Tam has given recitals in Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe and the United States. Her carillon compact disk "The Bells of Iowa State" was released in 2004.

Rotary Connects the World with Mary Beth Growney Selene, The Rotary Foundation Trustee, 2016-2019 and Rotary International Director, 2013-2015. Mary Beth is the founder and President of Ryan Signs, Inc., in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. She is a non-lawyer Fee Arbitrator and a (past) non-lawyer member of the Client Security Fund of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Mary Beth is a supporter of the What If? Foundation, which works to feed and educate children in Haiti. Mary Beth Growney Selene has been a member of the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, WI, USA since 1987 and she served her club as President in 1993-1994. She has been a host parent to four Rotary Youth Exchange students. In her District 6250 she served as Governor in 2000-2001; District Membership Chair and District Rotary Foundation Chair. Mary Beth served as a Training Leader at the International Assembly in San Diego and was the District 6250 Representative to the Council on Legislation in 2004, 2007 and 2010. She has served at the Zone level as an Institute General Chair, a Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator, Public Image Resource Coordinator, and Rotary Coordinator. Mary Beth served as a Rotary Foundation Trustee in 2016-2019 and, as a Rotary International Director in 2013-2015. While a Trustee, she served on the Finance, Program and Stewardship Committees of The Rotary Foundation, RI-USAID Partnership Steering Committee and the PolioPlus Advocacy Committee. She continues to serve on the Rotary-USAID Partnership Steering Committee. She is also a member of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Action Group (WASRAG) Operations Team. She has received Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service. Mary Beth and Alan are Major Donors and Bequest Society members to The Rotary Foundation’s Endowment Fund and they are both Sustaining members to the Annual Fund. |

Giving a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out

Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa is a fiscally sound, non-profit organization made up of Individuals and groups from area faith communities, businesses and service groups that donate their time, talent and treasure to help build for people in need. As of December, 2017 HFHCI has completed and sold 58 homes and will continue to increase production by building and remodeling houses in Hamilton, Hardin and Story county this year. Andrea Weber is a graduate from the University of Iowa and is currently working on her Masters from MBTS. She has been married for 14 years and has two boys, Axel and Deakon. She resides in Boone and is actively involved as PTO president and women’s ministry leader for her church. In Boone she has spent the past 10 years working on community outreach and engagement through such events as a back to school supply drive, community wide trunk-or-treat, and food pantry for the local schools. She comes to Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa with experience in marketing and social media advertising. With lots of ambition she is eager to bring her ideas to Story County. |

Anna was adopted from Seoul, Korea and grew up in Iowa. She went to high school in Des Moines and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa. Following her days at the University of Iowa, she worked for Opera Carolina, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, and Kids Voting. She also worked in the Advancement department and earned her master’s degree in public administration at Wright State University. She lived in England for over three years before returning to her home state in 2018. Her most recent position is with the Iowa Able Foundation serving as their executive director. Anna Magnusson has served on a number of community and regional boards, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, A Special Wish Foundation, Children’s Defense Fund, League of Women Voters Dayton, and Youth in Philanthropy Council. Anna was nominated and selected to participate in the 2003 Association of Performing Arts Presenters Emerging Leadership Institute in New York City. She was also nominated and selected as one of the 2006 Dayton Business Journal 40 Under 40 award recipients and most recently was accepted into the Leadership Ames Class XXXIII. Iowa Able Foundation Information Iowa Able Foundation empowers Iowans with disabilities, their families, and the aging to achieve and maintain independence. Iowa Able is a nonprofit organization committed to providing affordable financial services linked with education to alleviate the devastating effects of poverty. The Financial Solutions Program addresses immediate needs with financial resources needed to achieve independence; this includes a traditional loan, a credit builder loan, or a forgivable loan. The Financial Empowerment Program focuses on helping members gain the financial skills, knowledge and habits needed to maintain independence. |

A Survivor Tells Her Story

The speaker's name is Heather Brown, and she is a survivor of human trafficking. Since her heroic recovery as a victim of sex trafficking, Heather has provided speaking engagements to create awareness of the cunning recruitment practices of traffickers. She has shared control tactics of traffickers and helped with survivor-informed programming and training. She is now working full-time and has secured and maintained her own housing for the past year and a half. She is a licensed foster parent and will soon become an adoptive parent.

Brad Dell (he/him/his) is Director of Theatre at ISU, where he teaches classes in directing, performing arts, and script analysis. Since 2005, Brad has directed nearly thirty plays, musicals, and operas at ISU. He is the recipient of the 2019 Kennedy Center Gold Medallion, the 2017 Outstanding Teaching Award from the ISU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the 2017 Faculty and Staff Inspiration Award from the ISU Alumni Association, the 2017 Catch Des Moines Champion Award from the Des Moines Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and the 2012 “Local Treasure” award from the Ames, IA Community Arts Council. He is the Interim Co-National Vice Chair of KCACTF and the immediate past Chair of KCACTF Region 5. Brad is also the former Artistic Director of Apple Hill Playhouse in Delmont, PA, Repertory Theater of Iowa, and Iowa Stage Theater Company. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania and a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Western Illinois University. Some of his recent directing highlights have included Godspell, Macbeth, Orpheus in the Underworld, Oklahoma!, The Children's Hour, Romeo and Juliet, Company, Little Women, Cabaret, The Secret Garden, Les Miserables, Next to Normal, Fiddler on the Roof, and Rent,. Brad holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania and a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Western Illinois University. About ISU Theatre As a part of the Iowa State University Department of Music and Theatre, ISU Theatre seeks to empower citizen artistry by engaging students and the community in transformative theatre and performing arts experiences which examine the human condition, encourage lifelong learning, teach artistic skills, prepare professionals, inspire empathy, explore creativity, build relationships and embrace diversity. ISU Theatre administers a major and minor in performing arts and produces multiple theatre and performing arts productions throughout the year featuring performers, designers and technicians from throughout the university. The ISU Theatre CoLab Initiative seeks to foster collaboration and engagement between ISU Theatre and other groups both within ISU’s campus and throughout the broader community to create citizen artistry, inspire and be inspired by meaningful public discourse and expand opportunities for ISU students, faculty and staff.
