Circle Our Cities: Sustainable Iowa Land Trust

SILT's new Circle Our Cities Campaign https://silt.org/silt-launches-circle-our-cities-campaign/ will surround 10 Iowa cities, including Ames with 10 permanent, sustainable table food farms in 10 years for 100 farms protected total. The campaign will:

•            Reach 100 landowners willing and able to donate land or conservation easements surrounding 10 cities.

•             Protect clean water and clean air with sustainable farming. Iowa is the No. 1 contributor to the Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico.

•             Protect 4,000 acres of productive farmland to improve access to healthy food in communities.

•             Help 400 beginning farmers get or stay on the land, supporting inclusivity.

•             Sequester 10,000 tons/year of carbon to protect our environment.

•             Feed 800,000 Iowans to ensure equitable access to healthy food.
